Choosing a Value
Three sensible amounts and what each one covers.
One lunch, comfortably
Covers a sub and a drink with change, or most of a meal deal. The right size for a thank you rather than a present.
Two full meal deals
Two people eating properly, or one person's lunches for most of a working week if they skip the extras.
A week of lunches
Around four full meal deals, or a fortnight of subs and drinks. The meal planner will price a specific week against it.
Buying, Using and Checking a Card

Buy in store or online
Physical cards are sold at the counter in participating stores. Digital cards are bought through Subway's own site and arrive by email, which makes them the practical choice for a last minute gift.

Use it like a card at the till
Present it before payment. Gift cards work in store; they are generally not accepted through third party delivery apps, which run their own payment systems.

Check the balance before you go
Balance checking is on Subway's own site and in the app. Do it before you order rather than discovering a shortfall at the till.

Top up rather than replace
Cards can usually be reloaded, so one card can keep going instead of accumulating several with small balances left on them.
The Small Print Worth Knowing
Because every UK Subway is a franchise, acceptance is not universal. Most stores take gift cards, but a small number do not, and the only reliable way to know is to ask at the branch you plan to use. Store pages in the locator list phone numbers for exactly this kind of question.
A gift card is not the same as Subway Rewards. Paying with a gift card still earns points on the app if you scan, because you are still making a purchase, but the card itself carries no loyalty value on its own.
Expiry terms are set by Subway and printed on the card or in the confirmation email. Check them when the card is bought rather than a year later, and if a card has been sitting in a drawer, check the balance before planning a meal around it.
