£8.69+Big Cheese Steak ToastieTwo ingredients, one pan, and the only trick is melting the cheese into the beef rather than onto it.

To build
Immediately, on a plate, with a fork nearby for the cheese that escapes.
The Subway Big Cheese Steak Toastie costs £8.69 and comes to 458 kcal, which makes it the priciest and heaviest of the three toasties. It is the Philly idea sent through an oven that was built for it, and it is the richest thing in the category.
Steak and cheese is the one filling combination that genuinely improves under a lid, which is why this build exists. The cheese is not a topping here; it is mixed through the beef so the whole filling melts into one thing rather than sitting in layers. Everything else follows from that decision.
The taste is savoury beef and dairy with very little else competing, and the texture is uniform and molten inside a firm crust. It is the least complicated toastie on the board and the most satisfying, in the way that things with two ingredients and no ambition often are.
It suits cold weather and a proper appetite. The catches are honest ones: it is the heaviest item in the range, and it is the least portable thing on the toastie menu, because molten cheese and a crust do not survive fifteen minutes in a bag.
The comparison worth making is the Garlic Cheese Steak on the Signature board, which uses the same steak with garlic twice over in a cold sub build. This is the simpler, hotter, crustier version of the same instinct.
On value it is the top of a three item range, and what the money buys is the format working properly: a filling designed for the oven rather than tolerated by it. Eat it where you buy it.

It starts at £8.69, the most expensive of the three toasties on the UK menu.
458 kcal on the standard build, the heaviest of the toastie range. The panel on this page lists the rest.
Same steak base. The toastie is hot, crusted and built around melted cheese; the Signature sub is a cold build with garlic oil and garlic sauce, and costs more.
Not really. Melted cheese and a crisp crust are both worse fifteen minutes later, so this is an eat-in order.
Wheat in the bread and milk in the cheese, which is not optional in this build. Check the Subway allergen guide before ordering.
