Nothing here needs cooking except the finish under the grill, so the copycat lives or dies on the meat counter. Buy the three cured meats sliced thin and the rest is assembly.
The sub
Salad and finish
Crisps and a cold drink, eaten within the hour. This is not a sub that improves with waiting.
The Subway Classic B.M.T. costs £7.39 and lands at 386 kcal in a six inch, which makes it the cold sub the rest of the UK range gets built around. Pepperoni, salami and ham. Three cured meats, nothing warmed, nothing pretending to be the main event.
The three meats are the whole recipe and everything after them is a choice you make at the counter. Pepperoni carries the paprika and most of the fat, salami brings the pepper and the cure, and ham sits underneath both to stop the sub tipping into pure salt. Then it is yours: the bread, the cheese, and whatever comes off the salad rail. Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion and peppers add nothing to the price, seasonings are free, and the sauce is the last decision you make. Oregano with a little oil and vinegar is the plainest finish and the one that leaves the meat doing the talking.
The taste is salt, fat and pepper in that order, and it is a sharper sub than people expect from something this familiar. Pepperoni is the loudest thing in it and turns oily where it sits against warm bread, salami answers drier and peppery, and the ham reads almost sweet next to those two. Texture is where the overlap earns its keep: the slices are folded rather than piled, so a bite gets all three at once instead of a mouthful of whichever one landed on top, while the bread stays soft and the salad underneath keeps some snap. Toasted, the fat renders and the cheese melts down into the meat and the whole thing turns richer and quieter. Cold, the pepper stays forward, which is how most of the UK orders it.
It is the safe order, and that is meant as a compliment. It works cold, it survives an hour in a bag, it needs no toasting to make sense, and it is what people fall back to on the Sandwiches menu when they cannot face reading the board twice. The catch is salt. Only the Spicy Italian carries more across the whole range, so if that matters to you the panel above has the figure, and that is before cheese goes anywhere near it.
Against its neighbours it sits deliberately in the middle. Spicy Italian drops the ham and pushes the heat and the fat up, which suits people who wanted more of the same rather than something different. Turkey Breast goes the other way for less money. Protein is the one place the B.M.T. quietly loses, since the chicken subs clear it comfortably, so this is an order about flavour rather than numbers.
The value case is the three meats, since most counters charge for one filling what this asks for pepperoni, salami and ham together. Bundling it with a side, a drink and a cookie through the meal deals is the usual way to turn it into a full lunch. Order it cold for a desk lunch, toasted with cheese when it is the only proper meal of the day, and take the oregano when it is offered.

A six inch Classic B.M.T. starts at £7.39 on the collection menu. Footlong pricing is set store by store, and the meal deal bundles work out cheaper than adding a side, drink and cookie separately.
A six inch comes to 386 kcal on Subway's official UK figures. That assumes the standard build, so salad is included but extra cheese, sauces and toasting additions are not. The full panel on this page lists fat, salt, protein and the rest.
Pepperoni, salami and ham, all three in every sub. Subway glosses the initials as biggest, meatiest, tastiest, though they originally referenced the Brooklyn Manhattan Transit line. UK stores listed the sub as Deli Meats for a period, but the filling never changed with the name.
No. The pepperoni gives a mild warmth rather than heat, and the sub people confuse it with is the Spicy Italian, which drops the ham for more pepperoni and salami. Ask for jalapenos or chipotle southwest if you want the B.M.T. to bite.
The bread contains wheat and the cheese brings milk, and cured meats commonly carry soya. Your bread and topping choices change the answer, so check the Subway allergen guide or ask before ordering.
