The Subway Honey Mustard BBQ costs £8.19 and comes to 430 kcal in a six inch. It puts two sweet sauces on the same sandwich, adds bacon to chicken, and somehow does not collapse under its own ambition, which is more than that description suggests.
The build is fixed and busy: rotisserie-style chicken, streaky bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, peppers and onions, then both barbecue sauce and honey mustard. Two sauces on one sub is unusual anywhere on this menu, and it is the defining decision here rather than an accident.
The taste is sweet first, smoky second, with the mustard's sharpness arriving late to stop the whole thing being cloying. That late tang is what makes it work. Texture comes from the bacon, which stays firm against soft chicken, and from the peppers, which are doing more than decoration in a sandwich this sweet.
It suits people who order barbecue anything and mean it, and it is a genuinely good cold weather sub. The catch is the obvious one: two sweet sauces is a lot of sugar for a savoury lunch, and if sweetness is not your thing there is no version of this sandwich that avoids it.
On the Sandwiches menu it is the fully specified cousin of the BBQ Pulled Pork, which delivers a similar sweet and smoky idea more cheaply and much more lightly. The Legendary Teriyaki is the other sweet-sauce Signature, and it is the subtler of the two.
Value sits in the middle of the Signature range, and what you get for it is a sub that would take real thought to assemble yourself: bacon, two sauces and a full salad load. Order it hot, and take something plain to drink.

Rotisserie-style chicken, streaky bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, peppers and onions, with both barbecue sauce and honey mustard sauce.
Yes, barbecue and honey mustard together, which is unusual on this menu. The mustard's sharpness is what stops the barbecue sauce making it too sweet.
Wheat in the bread, milk in the cheese, egg and mustard in the honey mustard sauce. Check the Subway allergen guide for the full picture.
